Prefers a well-drained and sunny position but tolerates part shade. Drought and frost hardy once established.
Clusters of small fluffy purple flowers in spring.
Works well planted en masse as a groundcover, especially on exposed sites. Responds to pruning and shaping. Looks great in containers, courtyard gardens and is resistant to animal browsing. Brings colour interest through purple flowers and reddish foliage. Low hedging. Horizontal and structual form lends itself to Japanese style gardens.
